LD Seating
2026
LD Seating has been shaping seating for decades, with a strong foundation in craft, ergonomics and manufacturing in the Czech Republic. As the brand grows, so does the ambition to rethink how its products are experienced beyond the chair itself. Our collaboration with LD Seating started with exactly that question. How do you present a product in a way that reflects how it is made, what it stands for and why it matters?
Terra Lounge, developed with Orlandini Design Studio, marked an important step in this direction. A soft seating collection built around comfort, identity and sustainability, with much of its thinking hidden within the structure. Our role was to translate that thinking into space. We needed to present the chair for the launch, and to make its story visible.
It is made entirely from polyurethane, without metal inserts. Because of this, the materials can be separated more easily at the end of their life and recycled in a way that is often not possible with conventional construction. Recent advances also make it possible to reuse recycled polyurethane in both rigid and flexible parts, so the material can return into production rather than end as waste. Much of this process takes place in Boskovice, where LD Seating develops and produces its PUR components in-house. This keeps manufacturing close to the design and allows for greater quality control over how the product is made.
Working closely with the LD Seating team gave the studio deeper insight into the development of Terra Lounge, particularly the thinking behind its construction and sustainability approach. While the comfort of the chair is immediately visible, much of this thinking is not. The installation was conceived as a way to bring this into the space. The concept grew naturally from the name Terra. Rather than presenting the chairs in a conventional showroom setting, the installation places Terra Lounge in large planters surrounded by mosses, grasses and flower buds, creating a small landscape that references the earth itself. The idea was to connect the product to a natural environment, allowing visitors to experience the chair in a setting that reflects how it is made and the decisions behind its design.
Terra Lounge is constructed from a rigid polyurethane outer shell combined with soft polyurethane foam, without metal inserts. This allows the materials to be easily separated and recycled at the end of the product’s life cycle. To communicate this clearly, we designed a custom display where the components are suspended, giving a full 360-degree view of the structure.
The display itself was designed and manufactured with the same thinking in mind. It can be disassembled and reconfigured for future product presentations, allowing it to be reused across multiple installations rather than produced as a single-use element.
Terra Lounge launched in LD Seating’s London showroom, on Clerkenwell Road, in the centre of London’s design district. Both the natural planter installation and the product display developed for the project were brought into the London showroom for the launch event, giving visitors a closer look at the materials, construction and sustainability thinking behind the collection.
The event brought together architects, designers and industry figures from across London to celebrate the launch and experience the collection firsthand. During the evening, Folco Orlandini shared insights into the development of Terra Lounge, speaking about the thinking behind the collection and the decisions that shaped its form, comfort and construction. The showroom became a place not only to see Terra Lounge, but to better understand how and why it was made.
To support the launch of Terra Lounge, we also developed a short film focused on the collection’s development and production. Featuring insights from Folco Orlandini, the video was filmed within LD Seating’s production facilities in Boskovice, where much of the collection is manufactured. Rather than presenting Terra Lounge purely as a finished object, the film followed the processes behind it, from polyurethane production and upholstery to assembly and final detailing. By filming directly within the factory environment, the video gave a more honest and tangible view of how the collection is made and the level of care involved throughout production.
